Over the last weekend, I began my training to become a certified clinical hypnotherapist. And while I had begun to study technique on my own, I was in the presence of people who knew what they were doing and could help me move my limited experience to a deeper level. There are 10 of us in the Level 1 class, and we all practice on each other during the practice sessions. Learning comes pretty quickly when you have to actually do it, and so do the mistakes and not knowing what to do next. But that is exactly where I should be now.
I am totally amazed how harnessing various parts of ourselves, beyond the ones we use regularly, gives us so much more ability to see and act. Trances can be shallow or deep, and the impact can still be as strong. We are learning techniques that can be applied to a variety of situations and circumstances, so when the time comes, we will have multiple tools and skills on which to draw.
I can already see how the simplest forms of centering and breathing can move me from a place of stress to one of centeredness, and how this can put me back on track in my work when I am stuck. What a concept!
So when all else fails, close your eyes and breathe! Breathe in and out and relax, and let yourself let go of what is consciously around you. That's it. It works
