"No pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars, or sailed to an uncharted land, or opened a new heaven to the human spirit." Helen Keller
This quote resonates with me as I think of the things that I do to hold myself back. The "I can'ts" and the "It won't work's" are all expressions of my inner fears and lack of confidence in my ability to thrive and succeed. This kitten, less than 4 weeks old, obviously is oblivious this self-doubt and fear!
However, when I reach out to someone else, and take the risk of the first step, I usually find that I am not the only one who fears the unknown, and there are people out there with the skills and talents I don't have but need to have to succeed. Years of networking have allowed me to build a list of talented, creative people. These colleagues are usually ready and willing to give me reality checks, to help me think through ideas and possibilities, to offer suggestions that I could never see by looking through my lens on the world. It isn't that I am asking people to do things for me; I am asking for help to see outside of myself and broaden my field of vision.
As I begin to expand my practice into new areas, I see that my greatest strength can lie in my ability to expand beyond myself. This was the point of emination for SelfConfidentYou.Com, which is a network of caring, talented service providers who believe in serving the whole person. This network is currently recruiting professionals from all walks of life who are willing to share their strength and talents with each other. Since many of us serve a similar demographic, the potential exists for referral among members. A client may come to one of us to receive hypnotherapy to stop smoking. In the process, she may also need help on stress reduction, balancing work and family, understanding her finances, getting more exercise, and eating properly. All of these changes are likely to enrich her life but are not likely to be offered by the same provider. SelfConfidentYou, thus us addressing the whole person by helping the client find the next professional she needs to ensure her success.
So today, I can see that no matter what I fear and what shortcomings I believe I have, I do not need to be alone in addressing my issues. Neither do you need to be alone. Sometimes you don't know where to start, and that causes you to freeze. But if you are willing to take that first step, and talk about what you need, an action plan can emerge.
Don't do it alone! There are caring people out here who understand your problem and want to help you succeed.
